We're All About Vinyl...

SAMP Records is a record label services and music distribution company, launched in Johannesburg, South Africa, by Bret Dugmore (Mr Vinyl) and Abby Nurock (DJ) in 2023.  Later joined by Adrian King (ex-Warner / Sony), SAMP Records licenses and presses South African music to vinyl; and acts as a key partner for major and independent record labels in pressing their vinyl records.

Bret Dugmore

Bret Dugmore is the CEO of SAMP Records, and is the owner/founder of Mr Vinyl.  Formerly a DJ – Bret is a frequent radio contributor and music industry interviewee.

Bret has worked in the music industry for his entire adult life, and founded MusicReview when he was 18 – an online music news, reviews and interviews publication – in 2005.

In 2013, Bret started Mr Vinyl as an online vinyl record store.  Growing popularity for the vinyl movement saw Mr Vinyl go from ‘clicks to bricks’, with the opening of a flagship record store at 44 Stanley in Johannesburg in 2016.  Mr Vinyl is currently the largest record store in South Africa.

Bret has worked on a number of key ‘music on vinyl’ developments in South Africa, including partnerships with Stay True Sounds, Secretly Canadian and Sub Pop.

Abby Nurock

Abby embarked on her DJ journey in 2002 when she acquired her beloved Technics SL1210 turntables, which have remained her faithful companions ever since. As one of the few female vinyl DJs, Abby has cultivated a devoted following over the years and gained recognition for her various club and radio residencies, as well as multiple festival performances across the continent and has had the opportunity to share the stage with many esteemed local and international artists.

Abby has carved out a distinct brand and reputation under the hashtag #StrictlyVinyl, which is fueled by her unwavering passion for discovering exceptional music. Her signature sound has the ability to transcend genres, allowing her to captivate any audience that comes her way. Her unfiltered and genuine approach to DJing sets her apart, making her a unique artist in the industry.
